Ridge Gourd Peel Rice - Peerkangai Thol Sadham


   Ridge Gourd is a Vegetable with loads of Nutrients. Of course the Peel of the gourd is also loaded with Nutrients. Normally the Peel is thrown out. But the Peel can be used to make variety of Dishes. Now let us see how to make Rice with Ridge Gourd Peel.

Ingredients:

  1. Ridge Gourd Peel
  2. Onion
  3. Green Chillies
  4. Curry Leaves
  5. Turmeric Powder
  6. Grated Coconut
  7. Coriander Leaves
  8. Salt
  9. Tamarind
  10. Chana Dal
  11. Urad Dal
  12. Asafoetida
  13. Mustard Seeds
  14. Broken Urad Dal
  15. Red Chilli
  16. Groundnuts
  17. Turmeric Powder
  18. Cooked Rice

Recipe:

  • Peel the skin of the Ridge Gourd. Take care to wash the Ridge gourd properly. 
  • Chop the peel roughly.
  • Heat oil in a Pan and roast Chana Dal and Urad Dal
  • Add the Chopped onion, Curry leaves, Green Chilli and saute for a while
  • When the Onions are sauted add the chopped Ridge Gourd Peel.
  • Add the required Turmeric powder and Salt and mix well.
  • Sprinkle a little water and close the Pan.
  • The peel will be cooked in few minutes. 
  • Once the Peel is cooked and grated Coconut.
  • Add chopped Coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
  • Cool down the mixture and grind well with water and Tamarind to form a fine paste
  • Heat Oil in a Pan and Temper Mustard seeds, Broken urad dal, Curry leaves, Broken Red Chilli, Groundnuts and add the paste.
  • Mix well and switch off the Flame.
  • This is the Ridge Gourd Peel Chutney. This can be used as a side dish for Idly, Dosa etc
  • Ridge Gourd Peel Chutney is ready! You can temper the Chutney if you are going to use as Chutney itself. Else follow the next step.

  • Heat Oil in a Pan, Temper Mustard Seeds, Broken Urad dal. Add Chana Dal, Groundnuts, Broken Red Chilli and saute till the nuts and dal get roasted. Add Asafoetida, Turmeric powder and Curry leaves.
  • Add the Ground paste and saute for a minute and switch off the flame.
  • Take Cooked rice in a bowl and add required chutney to it.
  • Mix well and check for salt and add if required.
  • You can also add few drops of Gingelly oil (optional) to get a nice flavor.
  • Finally add chopped Coriander leaves.
  • Peerkangai Thol Sadham/ Ridge gourd Peel Rice is Ready!
